February 26, 2024 —The Osceola Magic defeated the Salt Lake City Stars 113-111 in Monday night’s matchup at the Maverik Center.
Trevelin Queen contributed a team-high 25 points and six rebounds in the victory.
“You have to keep your head up in tight games,” Queen said. “If you can stay disciplined, you usually come out on top. Not every win is going to be pretty; sometimes you’ve got to win the ugly ones. You have to be able to close those out too."
Osceola outscored Salt Lake City 40-19 in the second quarter. The Magic held the Stars to just 38.2 percent shooting from the field and held a commanding 72-50 lead at halftime.
The Stars fought their way back and took the lead in the third quarter. The two sides traded blows in the final two quarters, totaling eight lead changes in the second half.
“The Stars made a run, we withstood it,” Magic Head Coach Dylan Murphy said. “We kept our composure and didn't panic. Our guys executed and fought; sometimes you have to find a way to grind a win out. I’m super proud of our guys for coming out and finding a way to win. We take it one day at a time; everyone in the league has NBA players. We have to get back at it tomorrow.”
Osceola’s bench stepped up when called upon: Alex Morales led the second unit with 17 points, and the Magic reserves outscored the Stars 31-20. Queen sunk a free throw to give Osceola its fifth straight victory.
"Everyone on our team has a purpose; we care for each other on and off the court," Queen said. "When we go out there, we say 'Let's be Magic;' we are friends, and that helps. We’re focused on making the playoffs; we are going to stick hard to our principles every game.”
The Osceola Magic (12-7), NBA G League Affiliate of the Orlando Magic, will face the Salt Lake City Stars in West Valley City, Utah, at the Maverik Center Tuesday, February 27, at 9 p.m. The game will stream on NBAGLeague.com.
